When I go hunting for treasures to make my brooches, pins, necklaces, etc. I don't think. I just feel. I let my gut take control. Later I spread my treasures out to find the hidden connections that seem to have come straight from the back of my subconscious. And I say, "Hello, subconscious. It's been awhile...." (it seems to like cow-girls and horses at the moment!)
